MYSTERY

2 ONE-WORD PUZZLES

During a recent lunch break the Beartown Constable was exercising his brain by doing puzzles.  Try to solve the short but difficult puzzles.
Take the letters
O R E D W N O and make one word out of them.
After you succeed in doing that, try making one word out of the letters
A B E N O T Y
The last problem is said to have stumped Queen Victoria when it was given to her.  Anyway, not many people solve it.  You will be glad to know the Beartown Constable solved both within his lunch break.

CAN YOU SOLVE THE PUZZLE???

Check the next issue of Beartown News for the answer.

FROM LAST MONTH

AIRPLANE RACE at BEARTOWN FLY IN

The annual plane race this year was around a circular course.
"I hope young Charlie Wingspan wins."
said Mabel Bumford.
"Which one is he?" Asked Ruthie Molden.
"He's the one flying the white plane with a red stripe."
"Oh yes.  By the way how many planes are in the race this year?" asked Ruthie.
"A third of the number of planes in front of him added to three quarters of the number of planes behind him will give you the answer." said Mabel.
The Beartown Constable was in a nearby building, not able to see the sky, and overheard the conversation.  Being mentally astute he immediately knew how many planes were in the race.

DO YOU KNOW?  SEE BELOW

There were thirteen planes in the race.  Because it was a circular course there were just as many planes in front of Charlie Wingspan as there were behind him.  A third of the number of planes in the race minus one - Charlie's - plus three quarters of the number of planes in the race minus one gives you the number of planes.  Thirteen is the only number that will satisfy those conditions.
