VERMONT
FISH & WILDLIFE

ALERT!

ALERT!

ALERT!

ALERT!

IT IS ILLEGAL TO KILL INSECTS
and most other creatures

This law which has been on the books for several years states that a Comissioner's letter and a valid Vermont hunting license are required to kill creatures that are not covered by existing game laws. This would include flys, mosquitos, mice, spiders, worms, etc, etc, etc. People can apply for a "scientific collection permit" that allows capturing or collecting for scientific research, educational purposes or using them as the subjects of art or photography. This law covers "mammals, birds, reptiles, amphibians, fish, mollusks, crustaceans, insects, and other invertebrates; and is limited to native species not commonly taken for sport or profit, nor classified as domestic." Therefore it is illegal to "take" or kill virtually every creature not covered under existing law.

"The bottom line is we're not out there prosecuting people for picking up a frog or a salamander to put in their kid's terrarium." said the Commisioner.
However, as the recent events in our Nation have caused us all to be the best citizens possible, I'm sure that none of us will break any of our laws.
If you are a Vermont resident you can contact your elected officials to rewrite this ridiculous law. If you are not a Vermont resident; YOU CAN JUST LAUGH AT US!
